Getting Ready for The 2020 Season
If your hut is stored at Petrie Island, it should be put up on blocks before the ground freezes. Failing to do this, your hut could get locked in the ground and will be damaged when trying to tow it on to the ice. Ice huts can be towed on to the ice when the Bay reaches a minimum of 30 centimetres. Depending on the weather, this usually begins in late December or sometime in January.
If your hut is stored at Petrie Island, your hut storage fees must be paid in full before your hut can be towed on to the ice. Contact the Marina at 613-841-0778 to make arrangements to get your hut hauled on the ice.
If your hut is not stored at Petrie Island, you must make arrangements with the Petrie Island Marina for seasonal road access.
Visitors to the ice fishing village
Visitors to the ice fishing village should park their vehicles on Trim Road or Jeanne D'Arc Boulevard and walk out on to the ice. Visitors and guests driving on to the ice must pay a $5.00 entry fee payable at the office near the ice road entrance.
A Spectacular View of the 2019 Ice Fishing Village
We love it when we get photos like this. Eric Theriault, owner of the Oziles Marina and Bait Shop recently went to the penthouse of the Petrie's Landing Condominiums for this great photo of the 2019 ice fishing village in Baitshop Bay at Petrie Island.

Damage from Spring Flood at The Grandmaitre Cottage
Climate change believer or not, spring flooding at Petrie Island is the norm. The Islands are composed of mostly clay and sand and lay low in the Ottawa River. In spring, with snow melt upriver, the islands are prone to flooding, sometimes severe. In the photo is the Grandmaitre cottage that was damaged by flooding in the 1970's.

The Smile of Crystal Bradley
As the 2020 ice fishing season is about to begin, we look back at the 2018 season and this great photo of Crystal Bradley after catching a beautiful northern pike. Got photos from early season fishing at Petrie Island?
