100,000 Website Hits

Our website started back in 2004 as a security and information portal for the ice fishermen of Petrie Island. We originally created the website to offer on-ice security information and ice conditions.

The website was an instant success and we started expanding it with fishing news, stories, information and photos.

Within years, The PIIFA website became larger than life and we discovered that we had created a monster that everyone liked.

The PIIFA website is now visited by people from all over the world who want to see photos and read about ice fishing in Canada's capital.

On February 1, 2018 at 12:38 AM, our little website reached 100,000 unique hits. That person remains unnamed but we can tell you that he is local and lives in Orleans. His internet provider is Teksavvy Solutions and he searched on a desktop PC with Windows 10 using Yahoo Search.

Congratulations, whoever you are and a huge thanks to the other 99,999 unique visitors who have visited piifa.ca in the past 14 years!

Beijing Yaoxing Communication.
PIIFA on The Chinese Travel Channel

A documentary crew was on the ice on Sunday, February 7, recording for an upcoming series of television documentaries for Chinese television on winter in Canada.

Beijing Yaoxing Communication is a television documentary production company from Beijing. They were filming for the TV Series “Traveler” and the online series "Be Wild". The Traveler television series broadcasts on the Chinese version of the Travel Channel; Be Wild is an online video series following concepts of natural wonders, the outdoors, gourmet segments, festivals, and indoor activities.

The crew's 14-day filming itinerary started with 3 days in Niagara Falls, then moved on to the Toronto area, Blue Mountain and finished up with 3 days in the Ottawa area. The Petrie Island segment was hosted by Big Al on their second day in the Ottawa area.

They tell us that the Traveler series gets up to 700 million viewers for each new broadcast. The series on Canada will be divided into three 25-minutes broadcasts, so we can expect Big Al and our ice fishing village to get at least 5 minutes of fame on Chinese television.

At the point, we do not have release dates for any of the productions and probably unlikely that we ever be able to see a show from the Chinese Travel Channel. There is an outside chance that we might be to see the online version of Be Wild. We'll let you know if and when the information becomes available, only because we would love to see Big Al with sub-titles.

Big Al Collecting Canadian Tire Money
Show us the Money!

Big Al is collecting Canadian Tire money again this season to help buy one more door prize for the Petrie Island ice fishing derby on February 17. Al has bought some great door prizes over the past few years and it was your donations of Canadian Tire money that helped!

Check your drawers... check your pockets... check your glove box... and drop off your spare Canadian Tire money at Big Al's hut whenever you can.

Remember, it's all for a good cause because all profits from our derby go directly to the CHEO Foundation to help kids in our area.
