Where's your Canadian Tire Money?
Where's your Canadian Tire Money?

Big Al is collecting Canadian Tire money to be able to buy more door prizes for this week-end's derby. He started this a few years ago and the pool gets a little larger each year. He told us last week that he hopes to raise $75.00 in Canadian Tire money in time for this year's derby.

Check your drawers... check your pockets... check your glove box... and drop off your spare Canadian Tire money at Big Al's hut any time before the derby. Remember, it all goes for a good cause as all profits from the derby go directly to CHEO at their next telethon.

Latest Details on the PIIFA Ice Fishing Derby

The weather has cooled down and the PIIFA Invitational Ice Fishing Derby is a go! Here are some important details about the derby you should know: The Derby takes place Saturday, February 13, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in Baitshop Bay at Petrie Island. It is a closed derby limited to the hut owners of Baitshop Bay and their invited guests.

Registration has already started! You can register for the event at the hut of Rick Beaudoin. It's the beige-orange camo camper on the ice. This is a hut you can't miss! Pre-registration is $20.00. Registration on the day of the event is $25.00. Registratoon for kids 16 and under is $10.00.

On derby day, weigh-in for fish will take place at the retired OC Transpo bus shelter. Again, you can't miss this thing on the ice!

As most derby days generate a lot of vehicle traffic and the ice is still thin, we are asking visitors to park their vehicles on Trim Road or at the Baitshop and walk down on the ice.

Gearing up for Derby Week-end

The annual PIIFA Ice Fishing derby will take place on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Petrie Island. It will take place from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the area of Baitshop Bay. The derby is open to all hut owners of Baitshop Bay and their guests. The derby coincides with the winter version of Ontario's Family Fishing Week-end. This is a great time to fish in Ontario without having to buy a fishing permit.

Our derby has proven to be popular in past years with tons of fun and prizes. There will be prizes for winners of various fish categories in the derby and a 50-50 draw with tickets sold during the event. As always, the PIIFA derby is non-profit event and we will be giving all profits raised in the derby to CHEO at their annual spring telethon.

Don't leave when the derby is over! The Oziles Baitshop is putting on a fireworks show after it gets dark!

With all derbies organized on the ice at Petrie Island, Big Al is collecting Canadian Tire money to give as one of our many door prizes. Check your glove box, desk drawers and tool box for Canadian Tire Money and stop by Big Al's hut and give him what you got!

The rules are the same as last year with prizes for the largest fish by weight; the largest panfish by weight; and the smallest legally caught fish. Registration for the event is $25.00 for adults and $10.00 for kids aged 16 and under. Save $5.00 if you register before derby day!

We have lined up a few sponsors for prize donations but are looking for more. If you or your company would like to donate, please contact Big Al or Rick Beaudoin on the ice or send us an email. It's all for a good cause!

Remember, the derby is limited to the ice hut owners of Petrie Island and their guests. As it is Family Fishing week-end, your guests do not require an Outdoors Card or fishing permit to participate.

It is a time where the Ontario government and MNR designates several days during which Canadian residents can fish license-free in any body of water in Ontario where fishing is allowed.

2016 Family Fishing Week-end

The week-end is a great chance for people to experience the fun of ice fishing in Ontario without having to purchase an Ontario Outdoors Card and Fishing license. If you have been checking out our website and thinking, Gee, I'd like to try ice fishing", this is your big chance! To reserve an ice hut at Petrie Island for a day or the entire week-end, contact the Oziles Baitshop for more information. They have a minimum of 6 ice huts for rent during the season.
